Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in ChinaSaving people money so they can live better — worldwide

In 1991, Wal-Mart became an international company when we opened a Sam's Club near Mexico City. Just two years later, Wal-Mart International was created.

Today, we serve more than 49 million customers per week, and employ more than 620,000 associates at 3,355 stores, in 13 markets:

CanadaMexico
El SalvadorGuatemala
HondurasNicaragua
ArgentinaBrazil
Costa RicaPuerto Rico
ChinaJapan
The United Kingdom

Thinking globally. Serving locally.

Our international stores offer working families the things they need at prices they can afford, and offer the customer service and convenience we’re famous for. In each of our international markets, we use our strength as a global company to meet the local needs of our customers, and provide help for their communities.

Saving money — good news in any language

We’ve created stores with different styles and formats to fit in with local customer needs, desires, and customs. More than 75 percent of our international stores operate under a different banner than Wal-Mart. But, whether we’re Pali in Costa Rica, Todo Dia in Brazil, or Despensa Familiar in Central America, all of our stores share a common goal: Save people money, so they can live better.

And the opportunities for growth continue

In August 2007, Wal-Mart announced an agreement with Bharti Enterprises to establish a joint venture called Bharti Wal-Mart Private Limited for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India.
