Our Scholarships

Wal-Mart offers a number of scholarships to help Wal-Mart associates and their children achieve their college education goals.

Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship

$2,000 (one-time, non-renewable)

  • Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 or students who have earned their GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.
  • Must either be actively employed with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of April 25, 2008 -OR- May be a dependent of a Wal-Mart Associate who does not qualify for the WALTON Family Foundation Scholarship due to the Associate-parent’s part-time status or actively employed less than 12 consecutive months as of April 25, 2008.
  • Must have earned at least an 18 Composite ACT score or an 800 SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math) score.
  • Must be enrolled full time (at least 12 college credit hours) in the fall 2008 semester and the spring 2009 semester.

Higher REACH Scholarship

Up to $2,000 per year (may re-apply and be awarded up to four times)

  • Must have graduated high school/home school by August 1, 2007, or have earned a GED and would have graduated high school before August 1, 2007
  • Must be employed part time or full time with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of April 25, 2008.
  • Must have earned “on target” or “above target” designation on the last performance evaluation.
  • May attend individual classes or seek an undergraduate or graduate degree to be eligible.
  • Must enroll in at least three college credit hours in the fall 2008 semester and three college credit hours in the spring 2009 semester.
  • Payments are based on the following criteria of enrolled hours:
    • 3-6 credit hours per semester: $500
    • 7-11 credit hours per semester: $750
    • 12+ credit hours per semester: $1,000

Walton Family Foundation Scholarship

$10,000 (one-time, payable over eight semesters)

  • Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 or students who have earned a GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.
  • The applicant’s parent/legal guardian must be an active full-time associate with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least twelve consecutive months as of April 25, 2008.
  • Applicant must have earned at least a 22 Composite ACT or a 1030 SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math) score.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a full-time (at least 12 college credit hours) undergraduate degree program beginning in the fall 2008 semester and during all subsequent semesters throughout the program
  • Applicants planning to attend two-year institutions must agree in writing to transfer to a four-year institution by the beginning of the third academic year.
  • Recipients are required to maintain a 3.0 term grade point average (GPA] in at least 12 earned college credit hours per semester, submit term grade transcripts immediately upon completion of each term, and notify the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation of changes affecting the payment process to maintain eligibility.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship

$1,000 (one-time, non-renewable)

  • Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 or students who have earned their GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.
  • Applicant cannot be a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. associate or the dependent of a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. associate as of April 25, 2008.
  • Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0-point unweighted scale and have taken either the ACT or SAT tests.
  • Applicant must be enrolled full time (at least 12 college credit hours) in each of the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters.
  • Applicant may apply only once for the Community Scholarship, choosing either a Wal-Mart Store or Sam's Club in the application choice list. Multiple applications will be disqualified. (Winners may be identified with a different facility for efficiency in processing.)
