Where You Can Intern
As an intern, you'll have the ability to experience nearly every aspect of our business. So, no matter what your area of study, we have something for you. Read below to see what we mean. Merchandising Working in merchandising allows interns to experience the fast-paced, ever-changing global retail market. Merchandising interns have the opportunity to work cross-functionally and make product recommendations that can have a lasting impact.
Walmart merchandising interns work closely with buyers, attend merchandise shows and research markets, checking out the competition to discover what customers want and need from their Walmart stores. Interns also partner with suppliers, drawing on their own negotiation skills to provide customers with low-priced items they need in order to live better. Information Systems (ISD) The Information Systems Division (ISD) supports the world’s largest non-governmental database. ISD interns develop innovative solutions for our stores, clubs, distribution centers and aviation centers. Working with many different units such as information security, operation systems engineering, mainframe infrastructure, home office systems, and strategic services, interns’ creative input will not only influence our technology but that of the companies with which we work closely.
Operations Walmart Operations partners with any unit that directly affects the day-to-day operations of our stores, including:
- New Format Development – Analyzes innovative strategies to grow the company through potential new retail formats.
- Store of the Community – Analyzes the population and ethnicity of each store’s local community to help store and marketing managers improve customer experience.
- In-Store Presentation – Creates new and innovative retail environments that improve the customers’ shopping experiences in existing Walmart stores.
- New Business Development – Enhances our brand by managing the logistics of the businesses in the front end of the store.
- Store Re-Evaluation – Responsible for identifying underperforming stores and ways to improve customer experience.
Sam’s Club
By partnering with the many departments that make important decisions about finance, e-commerce, marketing, Sam’s Club operations and merchandising, Sam’s Club interns will experience the behind-the-scenes process of determining which products to buy, how to buy them, and how to ship them. Logistics Logistics is truly the heart of Walmart. It’s the division that uses the latest environmentally sustainable practices to move millions of products each day of the year to our customers and stores.
Our logistics unit works with all 40 of Walmart’s regional U.S. distribution centers and finds ways to move products more efficiently, creating cost savings to pass on to our customers. Logistics interns will work in distribution center operations or with Logistics University, which trains associates in their designated fields to help them advance their careers. Finance In the finance department, interns work with Walmart business partners in merchandising, store operations, realty, and logistics, while those in Sam’s Club finance unit will help business partners who provide support to all areas of Sam's Club. In addition, international finance interns will support our overseas business partners by working directly with Walmart’s international stores and clubs. Other opportunities include experiences in internal audit services, accounting and financial reporting, finance analytical solutions, shared services and tax.
