Marketing Intern - Kevin, MBA

KevinAfter completing two full days of orientation, I started my internship in the marketing department. My first day on the job, I met close to 50-75 different associates. Most people stopped by, introduced themselves and asked if I needed anything. Everyone was very open and I did not realize until much later that many of these people are very busy and very senior within the organization.

I met with my manager and learned about my project, which sounded great. It was focused on customer insights and human behavior. My manager clearly communicated the goal to me; however, the work plan to reach that goal was my responsibility. The expectations for me were pretty high, but I was trusted to use my time to get the project done.

My project needed a lot of input from lots of different parties. So I asked folks from across marketing and other organizations, and they were extremely helpful and made the time to answer my questions.

Overall, my project consisted of sharpening Wal,art’s focus on its core customer. I traveled a couple of times for work and saw some very interesting things and learned a lot. To give you an idea of my project’s scope, I worked on a $125 billion category in which Walmart is currently the number two retailer nationwide.

MBAs and Walmart associates have also reached out to make sure we enjoyed northwest Arkansas and got the most out of our experiences while we were here for the summer.
