Logistics Intern - Ryan, MBA

RyanAs an MBA Leadership Intern in Logistics, (specifically Logistics Systems) I work on a project on Advanced Ship Notification (ASN). I am able to come in and work with suppliers and the Information Systems Division (ISD) to improve the process and show its value.

On a typical day, I come in at 7 a.m. Then I usually have multiple conference calls with suppliers. I am working with 12 suppliers to increase their compliance over a 10-week period, so we have weekly conference calls to discuss any outstanding issues. I also make updates to the electronic systems that track the ASNs. To do this, I often meet with my counterpart in ISD. I also pull the weekly data and send it back out to the suppliers to make sure they are tracking the same issues. Finally, I head out of the office around 5:15 p.m. As MBA interns, there are many other opportunities available to us outside of our individual projects. We have been able to meet with 10 or 12 senior leaders throughout the summer, including Lee Scott. These meetings are a great opportunity to get to know the Walmart culture and get perspective on the company. At the end of the summer, five other interns and I will be able to present our project results to the executive committee.

You can always have a good time outside of work in northwest Arkansas. We often take trips down to Fayetteville on the weekends and even trips to Kansas City and St. Louis. There are multiple golf courses close by and it's easy to play after work. The northwest Arkansas area has really grown over the last few years, so there are nice restaurants to meet at with friends. Finally, if you enjoy the outdoors there is everything here: the lake, the river, hunting, bike trails, and hiking all within an hour’s drive.
