As a sign of our continued support to military personnel and their families

In 2007, the Walmart Foundation adopted 36 U.S.-based Fisher Houses for “Operation: Deck the Walls.” We provided a total of $350,000 in monetary donations along with Christmas decorations and holiday gifts for the families residing in Fisher House locations.

During the kick off, held at Walter Reed Army Medical Center

The Walmart Foundation presented a $100,000 check to support the construction of a house at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. The Fisher House manager received three $5,000 gift cards (one for each of the Fisher Houses located on the Walter Reed campus) to help purchase household items and gifts for the families. Country Music Star Tracy Byrd was on hand to meet the families and help with the holiday decorations.

“Walmart is a true champion of our military”

So said Ken Fisher, chairman, Fisher House Foundation. “We are grateful that they join us in recognizing the need to support our military during their time of need. The holiday decorations, gifts and shopping sprees will be a big boost to morale for our house managers and guests this Christmas season.”

Similar events were held across the country between November 13th and December 5th

At each event, Walmart associates distributed holiday decorations and gifts, and presented the Fisher House manager with a $5,000 Walmart gift card to use on a shopping spree for each facility he or she manages.
