Walmart Store and Sam's Club Giving Program Guidelines
Funding PrioritiesThe Walmart Foundation supports programs and initiatives in four main areas of focus: Education – Addresses the educational needs of underserved young people ages 12-25. Examples include programs focused on high school success, access and retention of first-generation college students and adolescent literacy. Workforce Development / Economic Opportunity – Provides job skill training, counseling and support services for unemployed, underemployed and displaced workers. Examples include career counseling services, financial literacy workshops and job readiness programs. Health & Wellness – Improves access to healthcare, reduces healthcare disparities and promotes healthy lifestyles. Examples include food distribution programs, immunization clinics, health education organizations and personal health record technology. Environmental Sustainability – Assists in the development or expansion of environmentally sustainable communities. Examples include energy auditing education programs, green job training, retrofitting/green building initiatives. The Walmart Foundation has a particular interest in supporting the following populations: Veterans and military families, traditionally underserved groups, individuals with disabilities and people impacted by natural disasters. Eligibility Requirements:The following organizations are eligible to seek funding from the Walmart Store and Sam’s Club Giving Programs: - Organizations with current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and that are recognized as public charities under Section 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code . Organizations must be listed in the most current IRS 50 State Master File at the time of application
- Recognized government entities exclusively for public purposes: State, County and City agencies, including law enforcement and fire departments
- Volunteer Fire Departments with current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or that operate as an entity of a recognized government agency
- K-12 Public Schools/Districts, Charter Schools, Community/Junior Colleges, State Colleges and Universities, operating exclusively for public purposes
- Private schools and colleges with current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Churches and other faith based organizations that have received a 501(c) (3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service, seeking funding for projects that address and benefit the needs of the community at large
Funding Exclusions:Funding requests for any type of initiative included in the list below are ineligible to receive funding through the Walmart Store and Sam’s Club Giving Programs. - Multi-Year funding
- Contests or pageants
- Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns
- Advertising, film or video projects
- Program advertising or marketing venues
- Individuals
- Athletic sponsorships
- Tickets for contests, raffles, or other activities with prizes
- Capital campaigns and endowments
- Association memberships
- Organizations whose services are limited to its members
- Projects that send products or people for relief efforts to a foreign country
- Organizations or programs outside the U.S.
- Organizations that fax, phone (telemarketing) or mail applications to our facilities.
- Organizations or fundraisers that intend to retain more than 25% of the grant funding.
- Faith-based organizations seeking funding to purchase real estate, equipment, supplies or sponsorship for programs and projects that only benefit the organization or its members.
Application Process:Organizations that meet the eligibility requirements for these programs can request an application at their local Walmart Store or Sam’s Club. Applications for the Walmart Store and Sam’s Club Giving Programs are accepted on an ongoing basis. Grant Awards- Minimum grant award is $1,000
- Maximum grant award is $5,000
- Limit: One grant per year per organization
Application and Award Processing- Applications must be completed in full and turned into the Facility Manager or Community Involvement Coordinator
- Applications that are faxed or mailed in will not be considered
- Local representation of the organization must have presence in the community we serve
- Walmart Foundation has final approval
- Availability of funds is limited
