Walmart Foundation and Associates Honor Late Veterans with Wreaths
We teamed up with Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization, during the holidays. American heroes rest in national cemeteries across the country. To remember and honor these veterans in a special way during the holidays, we teamed up with a nonprofit organization called Wreaths Across America. In December 2009, Walmart truck drivers transported and helped hundreds of volunteers lay 16,000 wreaths at national cemeteries and memorial sites across the United States, including “a mile of memories'' wreath display at Battery Park to honor 9/11 victims and veterans from the New York City area, Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., and the site of the Flight 93 crash in Shanksville, Pa. Wreaths Across America began in 1992 with a tradition of placing wreaths on headstones in Arlington National Cemetery. Since then, the nonprofit organization has partnered with volunteers and organizations to place more than 100,000 wreaths in more than 350 locations across the U.S.
