President Obama Meets Children's Miracle Network "Champions"
Photo Courtesy Children's Miracle Network After facing life-threatening illnesses and injuries, 53 young “Champions” representing the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) met with President Obama in March 2009. These very special ambassadors – who are living testaments to the medical care CMN hospitals provide across the country – are part of the Champions Across America program presented by Walmart and Sam’s Club Each year, CMN designates a Champion child in every state who has bravely triumphed over conditions such as brittle bones disease, brain tumors, leukemia, and cerebral palsy or survived injuries from car accidents or even plane crashes. This year’s Champion’s were sponsored by Walmart and Sam's Club and surprised with the opportunity to use a $500 gift card at their local Walmart store or Sam’s Club to prepare for a fun-filled vacation with their families in Orlando and an unforgettable trip to Washington, D.C. Acting as ambassadors for the hospitals who treated them, the Champions visited with their Congressional representatives and senators during a Capitol Hill luncheon where Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) addressed the group. Miss America 2009 Katie Stam, official Goodwill Ambassador for CMN, met with each child and his or her family. Throughout the year, she will visit Champions’ hospitals and raise money for medical care and research to help millions of kids get better. The children treated at CMN hospitals hold a very special place in the hearts of Walmart and Sam's Club our associates’ hearts. Together, Walmart associates, customers and members have helped raise $460 million for CMN since 1987.
