Diversity at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Excellence in all aspects of diversity and employmentWe are committed to attract, retain and grow the best people by maintaining an environment of support where all associates feel respected and valued. - We have expanded development programs and invested additional resources in associate selection processes, diversity and inclusion training, as well as mentoring.
- The Associate Resource Groups at the Home Office are focused on five key areas to support our business: recruitment and retention, diversity best practices, business support, associate development and community involvement.
- Our officers are held financially accountable for diversity successes. Their incentive bonuses are tied to the fulfillment of diversity goals.
- Every year we participate in numerous college recruiting events and diversity career fairs.
- We developed the Career Preference System for all our store and club associates, providing a consistent hiring and promotion process for qualified and interested applicants.
We put our Diversity on displayIt is important that we become a more transparent company in respect to employment data. We release information on the gender and racial makeup of our workforce on a regular basis. Our diversity report includes a series of charts that provide a snapshot of our present-day diversity. We drive diversity among our suppliers too- In 2007, for the third consecutive year, we contributed $1 million to the Business Consortium Fund.
- In May 2006, the Pinnacle Minority Supplier Development Fund invested $5 million in Simeus Foods International, Inc., the largest black-owned food processing company in the U.S. The Pinnacle Fund was established by an initial $25 million capital investment from us.
- In 2006, we partnered with local Chambers of Commerce and minority organizations to conduct several “How to Do Business with Wal-Mart” workshops. The workshops educate Minority and Women Business Enterprises (MWBE) suppliers about our business model, and helps them in establishing a business partnership with us.
- In 2006, we participated in the “Supplier Diversity-The Bottom Line: Corporate Recruiting Best Practices” and the Global Summit of Women’s Global Diversity Colloquium 2006: “Creating a Level Playing Field for Women” to discuss supplier diversity practices.
- We are proud to once again be America’s largest cash contributor to charity with more than $300 million in contributions in 2007. Corporate giving included significant grants to many organizations serving women and minorities.
