Associate Development

Diversity Development Series

The Diversity Development Series is a dynamic, internal resource that provides an array of diverse content in leading diversity trends and challenges. Associates at all levels across the company participated in the Diversity Development Series by attending live seminars hosted in cities across the U.S., or via live broadcasts through the in-house television network. Seminar topics include: Generational Diversity in the Workplace and Embracing Differences and Leveraging Diversity. The purpose of the program is:

  • To encourage open discussion about diversity challenges that impact our business and workforce.
  • To fundamentally enhance the associates’ ability to leverage differences.
  • To equip managers to effectively lead diverse, high performing work teams.

In 2008, more than 360 Diversity Development Series seminars reached more than 25,000 associates across the U.S. Additionally, live broadcast seminars reached more than 18,000 associates.

Mentor Me

The Mentor Me program is designed to facilitate the exchange and transfer of diverse knowledge, experience, and perspectives among our associates. The program empowers associates to take an active role in their development by providing resources, tools and recommendations to drive effective mentorships. All management and hourly associates at Walmart are encouraged to participate in the Mentor Me program, and mentoring is incorporated into diversity goals for many management associates.

Effective Leadership in a Diverse and Inclusive Environment (ELDIE)

The ELDIE program supports business needs by providing a forum that encourages Diversity and Inclusion education, engagement and exploration. The ELDIE sessions at the Home Office focused on four actionable goals:

  • To develop key Diversity and Inclusion messages and strategies for each business unit.
  • To develop action plans focused on engagement and best practices for career growth in a multicultural environment.
  • To measure engagement of our diverse leadership, seeking retention and development best practices.
  • To explore current diversity trends for the purpose of inspiring associates and leveraging our diverse workforce for greater business results.
