Opportunities to lead at Walmart encompass many areas, such as leadership development, talent management, business action plan development, and experiential learning on the job.

Talent Management

Global Talent Management (GTM) provides services for managing and developing diverse leadership talent at Walmart, including Succession Planning, Leadership University, Onboarding, and Executive Development.

An example of our internal executive education program is the Business Leadership Series (BLS). BLS is a flagship Executive Development educational program designed to enhance the leadership competencies and business knowledge of our officers. Leaders travel from around the world to participate in BLS sessions that are facilitated by the senior executive team.

Diversity Training from the Heart

Create dto promote Diversity and Inclusion awareness in the workplace through an immersion experience, the Perspectives on Inclusion program kicked off in 2008 with visits to Montgomery, Ala. Hourly and management associates from Sam’s Club and Walmart visited memorials and historical sites associates with the civil rights movement, and came away with a deeper understanding of events and people who helped move our nation toward greater equality and justice.

Field Leadership and Training Development

Training programs for field associates provide the technical, functional, management and leadership skills needed for success in all operating divisions. For instance, in the Walmart Stores division, their learning university works to develop trainings such as Assistant management training (AMT), focused on the leadership skills that drive future success.

Corporate Leadership Development and Training

Associates in the Corporate Office have access to training through Walmart Leadership University, which includes courses in human resources, merchandising, business acumen, leadership, and career pathing.
We hired one of the foremost experts in diversity training,
Novations J. Howard & Associates is working with us to provide diversity and inclusion training to all of our associates. This training teaches our associates useful methods for recognizing and appreciating different backgrounds, cultures, talents, skills, and life experiences. It strengthens our commitment to diversity by improving the performance and development of our associates and our company.

When the training program was introduced in 2004, more than 1 million associates completed Managing Diversity and Inclusion training. Every year, more than 500,000 newly-hired associates complete this valuable and important program.

Equal Employment Opportunity training

Our associates also complete EEO-related Computer Based Learning (CBL) classes. This training introduces them to and explains certain protections provided by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act. Including Sexual Harassment Prevention, and understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family Medical Leave Act.
In 2005, more than 9,900 supervisors and managers in the state of California received additional EEO education about Equal Employment Opportunity regulations including:

  • Title VII
  • The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978
  • The Equal Pay Act
  • The California Fair Employment and Housing Act
  • California Assembly Bill 1825

For associates in employment advisory and other human resources positions, we also provided EEO education regarding the following acts and regulations:
