The Beauty of a 2nd Tier Supplier Diversity Partnership

The Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies and Walmart share a mutual commitment to fostering a rich pool of qualified diverse suppliers that bring value to each company and help drive employment and revenue growth for their diverse supplier bases.

“We understand the importance of having a diverse supplier base which not only reflects our consumers and patients, but also provides both value and innovative solutions for our marketing, manufacturing and research and development efforts,” said Beverly Williamson, VP Process Excellence & Supplier Diversity Champion, J&J Consumer Products Worldwide. To further the commitment to diverse suppliers, in 2005, the Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies answered Walmart’s call for participants in its Supplier Diversity 2nd Tier program.

A recent example where the Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies were able to drive substantial revenue to a diverse supplier, while at the same time deliver a quality/competitive solution to Walmart, was through in-store displays. The J&J Group of Consumer Companies partners with Quality Packaging Specialists International (QPSI, CEO & Board Chairman Mike Ricketts, pictured above at the King of Prussia, PA, Walmart store), recognized as Supplier of the Year by the National Minority Supplier Development Council, delivered thousands of customized, in-store consumer product displays for distribution to Walmart stores. The supplier is playing a significant role in the J&J Group of Consumer Companies effort to increase value, re-engineer the display design process, improve speed-to-market for Walmart’s displays, and deliver a high quality solution for Walmart’s stores. This type of supplier performance is the key to driving growth in our diverse supplier base. “We have been able to more than double the dollars spent with QPSI over the last four years through examples like this,” commented John Martorelli, Director Indirect Purchasing, J&J Consumer Products Company. This translates to an increase in 2nd Tier spend for Walmart.

“Working in partnership with major suppliers like J&J Group of Consumer Companies, who share our commitment in the use and growth of diverse suppliers, is a winning combination,” said Theresa Barrera, Vice President of Supplier
