Bridgeton Wal-Mart To Celebrate Grand Opening

Store Brings 320 New Jobs and $31,500 in Charitable Donations Upon Opening

BRIDGETON, N.J., April 12, 2006 – The new Wal-Mart in Bridgeton will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, April 19, with a focus on serving its community and customers, and announcing an initial $31,500 in donations to numerous local organizations. The store will hold its grand opening at 7 a.m. and doors will open to the public at 7:30 a.m. The store is located at 1130 Route 77.

A Focus on Community
According to Store Manager Brian Cannon, as part of the new store’s commitment to the community, the Bridgeton store will announce $31,500 in donations to 27 area organizations through Wal-Mart’s Good Works community involvement program. “As the newest neighbor in Cumberland County, we are excited to be able to provide financial support that directly impacts our community,” said Cannon. “Our grand opening marks the beginning of our commitment to building long-lasting partnerships to the many organizations that help others in and make Bridgeton such a wonderful place to live and work.”

Employment
The store will employ approximately 320 associates. More than 1,200 people applied for jobs at the new store, according to Cannon. The average wage at Wal-Mart for full-time hourly associates in New Jersey is $10.49 per hour.*

“The large number of applicants for this new store reinforces that Wal-Mart is a great place to work and provides an opportunity for a long-lasting career,” said Cannon. “Our associates our committed to helping our customers and our community.” Cannon started as an hourly associate six years ago at a store in Wagoner, Okla. Ten of the Bridgeton’s store’s associates have worked for Wal-Mart for more than 10 years, added Cannon.

Store Features
According to Cannon, the new 148,000-square-foot Wal-Mart features 36 general merchandise departments including groceries, frozen foods, dairy products, family apparel, health and beauty aids, household needs, electronics, toys, fabrics and crafts, lawn and garden supplies, jewelry and shoes. In addition, the store offers a Tire & Lube Express, a vision center, a pharmacy, a portrait studio, a one-hour photo lab and a Subway restaurant. The store will also feature a Wal-Mart Connect Center for wireless phone sales. It will be open to customers from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., seven days a week and will include 14 full-service and six express lanes.

Grand Opening Day Activities
Pastor Ed Brooks of the Refuge Church of Christ will conduct the invocation at the grand opening ceremony. Members of the Boy Scouts will present the colors and Wal-Mart associates will cut the ribbon to the new store. The Bridgeton High School orchestra will perform at the ceremony and Upper Deerfield Mayor Kenneth Hill along with local dignitaries will attend. Additional activities planned during the grand opening event include numerous product samples and character appearances.
