Huron Wal-Mart Supercenter to Open Doors and Hearts with Donations

$30,500 given to local schools and organizations; grant to purchase life-saving equipment for Huron Regional Medical Center

HURON, S.D., July 15, 2006 – The new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Huron will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, July 19.  The new store, designed as a convenient one-stop family shopping center, will announce an initial $30,500 in donations to help neighborhood schools and area organizations.  A grand opening celebration will be held at 7:30 a.m., and doors will open to the public at 8 a.m.  The store is located at 2791 Dakota Ave. S.

Charitable Donation to Save Lives

The new Huron Wal-Mart Supercenter will provide the area community grants throughout the year, and will start off with several that will make immediate impacts.  A $17,000 donation will be used to purchase heart defibrillators for the Huron Regional Medical Center. “As the newest neighbor in Huron, we are providing a total of $30,500 to organizations in our community right from the start,” said Store Manager Darrell Seurer. “When we learned the hospital was in dire need of defibrillators, our team of associates determined this was a specific area we for which we needed to provide support. For Huron, we intend to continue Wal-Mart’s commitment to the grassroots support of its communities,” added Seurer.

“Wal-Mart’s generous contribution will allow Huron Regional Medical Center to purchase two new defibrillators which will be used in our Emergency Room and Intensive Care Units,” said Rob Timm, executive director of the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation. “These machines literally save the lives of cardiac arrest patients.  What a fitting way for Wal-Mart to begin its long-term commitment to the Huron area and its residents.”

Huron organizations can contact their local Wal-Mart stores to inquire about grants, matching grants and opportunities to raise dollars outside store locations throughout the year.
