Miles City Wal-Mart Supercenter Celebrates Grand Opening With $10,000 Grant to Support Local Building Project
Ceremony to be held Wednesday, Oct. 25; store features to benefit customers, including expanded groceries, hair salon and vision center
MILES CITY, Mont., Oct. 18, 2006 – The new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Miles City will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, Oct. 25, with a focus on serving its community and customers, and announcing an initial $20,095 in donations to local organizations, including a $10,000 grant to benefit a local building project. The store will hold its grand opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m., with doors opening to the public at 8 a.m. The Supercenter is located at 3205 Stower St.
A Focus on Community As a part of the more than $20,000 in donations to be given over the week to local organizations, the Wal-Mart store will give a special $10,000 grant to the Miles City Housing Authority. Each Wal-Mart store has the opportunity for many organizations to receive grants upon opening day and throughout the year through Wal-Mart’s Good Works community involvement program. The store is providing an additional amount of support toward the building project above its customary grand opening donation budget.
“We are pleased to help support this important project which will provide housing and green space for the Miles City community,” said Store Manager Barbara Moore.

In 2005, Wal-Mart Stores and Sam’s Club gave $646,233 in cash and in-kind donations to local causes and organizations in the communities they serve in the state of Montana. Through additional funds raised through stores and Clubs throughout the state, Wal-Mart contributed and raised a grand total of $831,469 as a result of its presence in Montana.
Grand Opening Ceremony Details The store welcomes the community to attend its celebration at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 25. Representatives from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars will present the colors at the grand opening ceremony. The Custer County District High School Choraleers will perform the national anthem and Moore will cut the ribbon to officially open the new Supercenter.
Other activities planned include character appearances by the Keebler Elf, Tony the Tiger, Chester Cheetah, Rudolph the Reindeer, Smokey the Bear and local character Billy Bloedorn. Numerous product samples and giveaways will be distributed throughout the day.
Store Features According to Moore, the new 159,185-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter features 36 general merchandise departments including apparel and accessories, fine jewelry, a lawn and garden center, health and beauty aids, and a full line of electronics. In addition, the store offers a bakery, a delicatessen, a frozen food section and meat, dairy and fresh produce sections. It will be open to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will include 12 full-service and six express check-out lanes.
Other store features include a Tire & Lube Express, a family fun center, a one-hour photo lab, a vision center, a pharmacy, a SmartStyle Family Hair Salon, beer and wine sales and a Wal-Mart Connect Center for wireless phone sales.
Just in time for the holiday and Christmas seasons, the new store will open with Wal-Mart’s “Toyland,” featuring the hottest toys at the coolest prices. Customers will be able to fill any child’s wish list with everything from classic favorites such as Baby Alive, digital and electronic toys, board games to plush toy characters that come to life.
85 New Jobs Planned The store plans to employ approximately 260 associates, most of which will be full-time. The national average wage at Wal-Mart for full-time hourly associates is approximately $10.11 per hour.* Wal-Mart has created more than 240,000 new jobs over the past three years in the United States.
