New Wal-Mart Anchors Streetsboro Commons Shopping Center

Store is new, commitment to community is long standing

STREETSBORO, Ohio, Oct. 31, 2007 – The Wal-Mart store in Streetsboro has moved a few miles down the road to anchor the new Streetsboro Commons shopping center. When the store celebrates its grand opening Wednesday, Nov. 7, it will feature a full line of groceries, a new color scheme, the latest environmentally friendly building features and support for the community it has called home for 13 years. The store’s new location is at 905 Singletary Drive.

Wal-Mart Store and Historic Singletary House Both Get New Homes
The Wal-Mart store is not the only building in Streetsboro that is on the move. The Singletary House is a Streetsboro landmark, a historic house built in 1828 and the first frame house in the city. In 1971, it was moved from its original location on the town square to an area that in 2006 would see the start of construction of Streetsboro Commons. Wal-Mart and Woodmont Company, which is developing Streetsboro Commons, donated $80,000 to relocate the Singletary House to natural area nearby where it will be managed by the newly formed Streetsboro Heritage Foundation. “We are glad that we could help our community and do our part to preserve this important piece of its history,” said Store Manager Philomena Serena.

Shoppers Benefit from Convenience and Savings
Originally opened in 1995, the newly relocated 225,000-square-foot Supercenter will feature a new color scheme with bright yellow walls and black counters and cases in the grocery section. Wood pegboards and curved granite-like counters will display goods in domestics, housewares, crafts and stationery departments. The store will feature apparel and accessories, fine jewelry and health and beauty departments. Shoppers can select from a full line of groceries, bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, fresh produce and organic products, and an expanded electronics and home entertainment section offering the latest in laptops, digital media players and high-definition flat screen televisions. Other features include a Tire and Lube Express, a one-hour photo lab, a pharmacy with two drive-through lanes, a vision center, beer and wine sales and a Wal-Mart Connect Center for wireless sales. Leased areas include a SmartStyle Family Hair Salon, a Regal Nail Salon, a Subway restaurant and a branch of Woodforest Bank. The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and customers can pay for their purchases at one of 21 full-service and eight express checkout lanes.

The store will also feature the latest environmental features designed to save energy and reduce waste. The floors are made of recycled fly ash, a byproduct of burning coal to generate electricity that would normally be disposed of in a landfill. Skylights that harvest daylight and lights that dim in offices and in the freezer cases when no one is around help reduce the amount of energy used in the store.

Store Gives $27,000 to Local Charities
The grand opening celebration is an opportunity for the store’s associates to lend a hand to local community and civic groups that have a positive effect on the community. Grants totaling $27,000 will be distributed to 14 deserving organizations.

Every Wal-Mart store provides grants to community groups at its grand opening and throughout the year. Organizations interested in receiving funding can contact the store for details. Groups receiving funding are:
