Wal-Mart sales beat expectations

September 4, 2008 Retail giant Wal-Mart on Thursday reported a gain in August same-store sales that trounced expectations from analysts. Wal-Mart, the leading retailer in the world, said that sales at stores open at least one year increased 3% during the four weeks ended Aug. 29, compared to the same period last year. The figure does not include fuel sales. Read on.
