Noblesville Walmart Unveils Customized Store Redesign

Local organizations to benefit from $13,000 grant donations

NOBLESVILLE, Ind., Sept. 17, 2008 – After a 10-week transformation of the entire interior of its store, the Noblesville Walmart will hold its re-grand opening celebration Wednesday, Sept. 17. Customers will be able to shop smarter in the repositioned departments, complete with wider aisles, new directional signage, open layout and lower shelving. A grand re-opening ribbon-cutting ceremony with community leaders and store associates is scheduled for 8 a.m. and the celebration will continue throughout the day.

“We’ve tailored our new store layout based on how we know our customers shop,” said Store Manager David Combs. “We know customers want to purchase quality products at a good value, so we’ve combined and expanded our home furnishings and electronics departments and added better healthcare services to provide customer-friendly, one-stop shopping,” added Combs.

Increased Shopping Conveniences, Expanded Selections
The Noblesville Walmart improved the customer experience in all areas of the 205,512 square-foot store. To better serve customers with healthcare needs, the pharmacy has been relocated nearer to the front of the store, complete with lower counters and an open design to allow customers to ask the pharmacist questions. The Vision Center now has a more open layout, complete with new bench seating. Walmart is committed to helping customers and associates save money on their healthcare needs as well. The Noblesville store offers more than 350 generic prescriptions available for only $4 per prescription.

Shoppers can find the latest technology such as Blu-ray discs and computer gadgets in the expanded electronics department that moved along the wall to provide a better selection and quicker shopping. Customers will immediately notice that Walmart simplified the home decorating process by combining the home décor and organization departments with furniture and storage solutions. Now customers can find coordinating accessories for their homes all in one location. The Noblesville store also offers Walmart’s new Canopy™ line of furniture and accessories, which is budget-friendly furniture and home accents, typically 40 percent less expensive than similar pieces found at competing stores. Families with active young children will appreciate the mar-resistant finish on the wood pieces as well as the spill resistant fabric on the upholstered furniture.

The updated store exterior scheme is a neutral tri-color palette and freshened interior colors help distinguish the grocery department, general merchandise and the lawn and garden center. The grocery department produce displays have been upgraded and the apparel department fitting rooms have been expanded.

Noblesville Walmart Associates Give Back to the Community
As part of Walmart’s commitment to give back to the communities it serves, associates from the Noblesville store have selected several local organizations to receive a total of $13,000 in grants from the Walmart Foundation. Grant recipients include the Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scout Troop 101, Forest Hill School, Indiana State Police, Noblesville Fire Department, Noblesville Lions Club, Noblesville Youth Baseball, Prevail, Inc., North Elementary School and Stoney Creek School.

“We are always looking for ways to support our hometown, especially during our re-grand opening celebration,” said Combs. “We are committed to helping the community organizations that make a difference everyday,” added Combs.

Store Upgrades Energy Efficiency
Combs said the remodeled store was constructed with energy efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy use and water consumption and minimize waste. Walmart is committed to being an environmental steward while maintaining profitability each day and during the remodel, store associates took extra steps to recycle and reuse wherever possible. Plastic shopping bags, hangers, aluminum cans and office paper are sandwiched between cardboard, bundled into bales and sent to recycling centers said Combs.

In addition, metal shelving and store fixtures along with concrete, sheetrock and wood scraps were recycled and the store added wood flooring to all of the apparel departments and environmentally friendly, easy-to-clean tile to the front of the store. Even the photo lab minimizes the use of harsh chemicals by now using dry processing.

Grand Re-opening Activities
The grand re-opening celebration Wednesday, Sept. 17 will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The public is invited to join Store Manager Combs and store associates in the celebration. The store has planned numerous festivities for the day, including product samples, character appearances and giveaways.
