Walmart 'wows' with Sustainability Index

September 1, 2009 Walmart has raised the bar among retailers with the launch of its Sustainable Product Index, which will let consumers know how environmentally friendly the product they're buying is rated. The company plans to ask each of its suppliers 15 questions about the life of their products from manufacturing through disposal: questions about greenhouse gas emissions, social responsibility, waste reduction initiatives, and water use.
