What People Are Saying

Economic Opportunity

We create tens of thousands of jobs every year -- many of them in neighborhoods that need them the most. In fact, we created more than 240,000 jobs over the last three years. At one store near Chicago, we had 25,000 applications for just 325 available jobs. More than three-fourths of store management started at Walmart in hourly positions, and our average, full-time hourly wage for Walmart stores is $10.83.
  • "Walmart has been heavily involved in helping this community… Even prior to their opening one year ago, Walmart has been helping different organizations in Vineland. In these hard economic times, we've needed it."

The Honorable Robert Romano, Mayor, City of Vineland, NJ, The Daily Journal
    1/23/2010
  • "The [new Walmart] will and should benefit the total economic climate for the city of Streator… The effects could be domino. We know of at least one other project ready to go, including an approved development plan that's ready but stated they will not move forward until Walmart becomes a reality."

Paul Nicholson, City Manager, City of Streator (IL), The Daily Times
    12/30/2009
  • “We need jobs like this [Walmart would provide]… [Walmart has] been a good corporate citizen. I think we can look to other areas with supercenters such as Hadley and Amherst, along with Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and see that big-box stores and Main Street can survive."

The Honorable Richard Alcombright, Mayor-Elect, North Adams, MA, Bennington Banner
    12/13/2009
  • “This [Walmart] store is a sign of prosperity, jobs and a new tax base coming to Louisa County.”

Bob Gibson, Director of Economic Development, Louisa County, Charlottesville Daily Progress
    11/12/2009
  • “As I’ve delivered more stuff to the Walmart stores, my business has grown… It’s been a great opportunity. It’s good for the local economy as far as employing a local workforce and keeping our local communities alive.”

Mark Meyer, Owner, Meyer Produce, Illinois Times
