We’re committed to providing our associates access to quality, affordable health care coverage. But our commitment doesn’t stop there. Too many Americans live without insurance. And they can't afford adequate health care under the current system.
We’re an active leader in achieving better health care and health care reform. There’s many ways we help support that reform. We can demonstrate the cost-saving benefits of information technology to the health care system because we've experienced those savings in our own business. The success of our in-store clinics is an example of how we can improve health care, and reduce expenses for both patients and providers.
Walmart, among other companies, has greatly benefited from improved supply-chain management and high-volume purchasing.
We believe that the same improvements could help reduce health care costs, as well. We reviewed our lessons learned and shared how we believe those lessons translate to improved health care – both in direct care and the cost of prescriptions and other medical supplies in a paper entitled “Removing Costs From The Health Care Supply Chain: Lessons From Mass Retail.” The paper was authored by Dr. John Agwunobi, senior vice president and president of Walmart’s health and wellness division and Dr. Paul London.
