Andre Thornton’s career has taken him from the major leagues of baseball to the major leagues of supply chain management.
Thornton is president and CEO of ASW Global LLC, a third-party supply chain company that provides services to 63 Sam’s Clubs in Ohio and Michigan. ASW Global formed a partnership with Walmart more than 15 years ago. ASW Global plays an important business role for Sam’s Club and ensures its members in Ohio and Michigan have access to products that they expect to find in their local club. ASW Global’s full-service operation provides a reasonable and low-cost partnership with Sam’s Club that saves the company time and resources. Thornton, a successful entrepreneur and former Cleveland Indians Major League Baseball player, makes business decisions by positioning the company in the right marketplace at the right time. In addition, he trains his managers and staff to maximize relationships with existing clients for increased retention and growth. As a businessman, Thornton and his management team are always looking for opportunities to develop and grow the business. “I try to make sure that our team is prepared to implement the strategies that we have identified as important to our success,” Thornton said. “In order to offer a wide range of services, we have strengthened our management to be a full service leading logistics provider for our clients or prospective clients.” Thornton’s business model has opened doors for ASW Global to do business outside of Sam’s Club with other major corporations. Although free time is rare for Thornton, he is a best-selling author of “Triumph Born of Tragedy,” a personal memoir about an unfortunate event in his life; one that he says motivates him to conquer new challenges every day.
