The U.S. Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Awards
In 2007, Walmart partnered with the U.S. Conference of Mayors to launch the Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards Program. The awards recognize mayors who have implemented outstanding, innovative programs to improve environmental conditions, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote healthy living habits in the communities they serve. Each year, an independent panel of judges selects two winners – the mayors of one large city and one small city – as well as eight outstanding achievement award winners. The winning mayors demonstrate a true commitment toward reaching the goals shared by the Mayors Climate Protection Center and Walmart. Those goals include: protecting our environment; increasing energy efficiency in cities; and making our planet sustainable for generations to come. Walmart’s sponsorship of the Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards is another example of the company’s commitment to local communities. Walmart believes that innovation can come from anywhere and is proud to partner with the Mayors Climate Protection Center to help increase awareness of global warming and foster creative approaches to addressing it in cities nationwide.
