Renewable Energy

At Walmart, we know that being a profitable and efficient business goes hand-in-hand with being a good steward of the environment. In an effort to reach Walmart’s larger goal of being supplied by 100 percent renewable energy, we are committed to finding more ways to implement and utilize renewable energy sources in our stores, clubs and distribution centers.

When it comes to energy, we continue making progress towards our long-term goal by using more renewable sources and becoming more efficient. For example, we have installed a significant number of micro-wind turbines at our Sam's Club in Palmdale, California, and store in Worchester, Mass., we are using solar energy in California and Hawaii and purchasing wind energy in Texas and Mexico.

Walmart purchases wind to power stores in Texas

As part of Walmart’s goal to use 100 percent renewable energy, we have announced our first substantial purchase of this clean fuel, which will provide up to 15 percent of the total energy for more than 360 Texas stores and facilities.

The sun is an incredible source of not just heat and light but also clean energy.

Aspen Institute recognizes Walmart's energy efficiency and sustainability work

At the Aspen Environmental Forum held in March 2009, we were honored to take home the award for Corporate Energy Efficiency at the second annual Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Awards.
