National Giving Program
National Giving Resources The Walmart Foundation strives to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in our communities including our customers and associates. Through its philanthropic programs and partnerships, the Walmart Foundation funds initiatives focused on creating opportunities in education, workforce development, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness. Organizations that are considered for funding through the Walmart Foundation's National Giving Program implement programs in multiple sites across the country or have innovative initiatives that are ready for replication nationally. The Walmart Foundation’s National Giving Program is not currently accepting new, unsolicited inquiries or proposals. The submission process will reopen on December 1, 2009 for funding during our next fiscal year (February 1, 2010 – January 31, 2011). Example of Recent Support  On hand to celebrate the partnership between Essex County College and Gateway to College are: Phil Linfante, Jennifer Hoehn, A. Zachary Yamba, Leigh Bello-de Castro, Nick Mathern. The Foundation recently awarded a grant of $2,542,500 to Gateway to College. The grant supports the replication of the Gateway to College program at five community colleges including Eastfield College (Mesquite, TX), Spartanburg Community College (Spartanburg, SC) and Essex County College (Newark, NJ). The Gateway to College program serves at-risk youth, 16 to 20 years old, who have dropped out of high school. The program gives students the opportunity to simultaneously accumulate high school and college credits, earning their high school diploma while progressing towards an associate degree or certificate. Gateway to College students are young people who do not fit well in a traditional high school setting and are a diverse group facing many challenges. Some are teen parents, foster youth, or students who have struggled with substance abuse. Gateway to College was originally developed in 2000 at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon and currently operates in 24 colleges and 14 states.
