Walmart Neighborhood Market Offers Convenient Shopping Experience

Renovated store offers customers big savings with small grocery format

CENTER POINT, Ala., July 19, 2010 – The Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 1916 Center Point Parkway in Center Point will celebrate a grand re-opening this week, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m., Friday, July 23. Doors to the store open at 6 a.m.

“This renovated Neighborhood Market will bring so much to the community in terms of new jobs, increased shopping opportunities for the people who live in this part of Center Point and support for local charities,” said store manager Richard Seagle.

“It has been a pleasure to watch the development of the Walmart Neighborhood Market since its original opening as the first Neighborhood Market in the state,” said Center Point Mayor Tom Henderson. “We are very proud to have the Neighborhood Market in our city not only for the revenue they generate but for their dedication to making Center Point a better place to live.”

Fresh Foods and Familiar Brands

The 41,400-square-foot store will carry a full line of groceries, including fresh produce, frozen foods, meat and dairy products and organic items. The deli offers hot rotisserie chicken, deli-made sandwiches and pizza by the slice. An expanded deli area offers a wide variety of meats, cheeses and freshly prepared foods. Customers can pick up cakes and breads in the bakery.

The store, which features a drive-through pharmacy, now offers an expanded selection of housewares, from glasses and pots to laundry baskets.

“This store will give local residents a quick and easy shopping option for groceries in Center Point,” said Seagle. “Our customers are really going to like the convenience of our expanded deli and all the prepared foods we will offer.”

“The Neighborhood Market has filled an important need in our city, and the new renovations will be a great asset to the store and the community,” Henderson said.

Store Provides 90 Local Jobs

The renovated store created an additional 30 jobs during the remodel and will employ approximately 90 associates. “We’re proud to bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area,” said Seagle.

Grand Re-Opening Activities Include Support for Local Organizations

The grand re-opening celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 23, and will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. During the ceremony, store associates will present grants from the Walmart Foundation to local organizations.

“These local organizations and others like them provide much needed services to area residents, and like all Walmart stores, our store will continue to work with them to provide support and community grants throughout the year,” said Seagle.

“Walmart has been a very good corporate citizen for Center Point and has provided support for our city projects and events such as the National Night Out, the Festival of the Springs, the Miss Center Point Pageant, the Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt and any other help we need,” Henderson said.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have committed $2 billion to U.S. hunger relief efforts through 2015. The Fighting Hunger Together campaign will also engage Walmart customers and associates in the fight against hunger. More information can be found at walmart.com/fightinghunger.
