Made In Oklahoma Coalition: Walmart boosts Oklahoma food manufacturers

The Made In Oklahoma Coalition has found that sometimes the challenge to "Buy Local!" is met by giant nationwide chains as much as the state's own independent retailers.

For example, in Wal-Mart's most recent fiscal year the retailer spent $548.4 million for merchandise and services with 924 suppliers in the state of Oklahoma, supporting more than 21,000 local supplier jobs, company officials said.

About 15 of those suppliers are food manufacturers promoted by the MIO Coalition, a private-public partnership program through the Oklahoma Agriculture Department. Read the full article.
