Wal-Mart Appoints Julie Roehm as Senior Vice President
of Marketing Communications


BENTONVILLE, Ark., January 18, 2006 – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., announced today that Julie Roehm, an 11-year veteran of the auto industry, will join its Wal-Mart Stores U.S.A. division as senior vice president of marketing communications.

Roehm will be responsible for the overall development and execution of advertising strategies, creative services and special events for Wal-Mart Stores U.S.A. She will report to John Fleming, Wal-Mart’s chief marketing officer. This is a new position within the company.

“By creating a single source of responsibility for our marketing communications, we will ensure the consistency of our message to our customer,” Fleming said. “We want our customers to know that whatever their shopping needs, Wal-Mart provides products and services that are relevant to their lifestyle, at great value. Julie’s experience will be instrumental in our efforts to showcase that message.”

Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Roehm worked for nearly 11 years in the automotive industry. Most recently, she served as the director of marketing communications for the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands and was the director of marketing communications for the Dodge brand from 2001 through 2003. During her tenure with the Chrysler Group, her responsibilities included overseeing media purchasing, creative, auto and consumer shows, branded events, sponsorships and partnerships, interactive media and gaming, customer relationship and database management, merchandising and licensing, and dealer advertising association communications.

Prior to joining Chrysler in 2001, Roehm held numerous marketing and sales positions with the Ford Motor Co. and accomplished many objectives for the company’s brands.

Roehm has been recognized many times for her marketing achievements. In January of this year, she was named Corporate Media Executive of the Year runner-up by the Delaney Report. In 2005, she was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame and featured in Automotive News as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in the Automotive Industry. Additionally in 2005, under Roehm’s leadership, Chrysler Group was named Interactive Marketer of the Year by Ad Age. She has also been inducted by the American Advertising Federation Advertising Hall of Achievement, and given the Automotive News Marketing All-Star award, Brand Week’s Marketer of the Year award and was named as one of Working Mother’s Top 25.

Roehm will relocate to Bentonville, Ark., with her husband, Mike, and sons Nick, 7, and Luke, 4.
