NEBRASKA CITY, Neb., Jan. 12, 2007 – The new Supercenter in Nebraska City will celebrate its grand opening at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, with community leaders sharing what the new store brings to the community. In addition to every day low prices and “one-stop shopping,” city leaders are excited about the additional economic opportunities the new store provides such as new jobs, added sales tax revenues and assistance to local charities, including $37,500 donated to organizations upon its grand opening. The new store is located at 2101 S. 11th St. Store Manager Christian Garcia says the store received more than 1,650 applications for the 220 jobs planned to open the new Supercenter. Not only will the Supercenter provide new job opportunities, it will also boost the economy as well, says Jim Johnston, executive director of the Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce Inc. “The Wal-Mart opening will present local Nebraska City and surrounding rural residents the opportunity to shop locally, resulting in increased city sales tax revenues,” Johnston says. In addition, consumers now have the variety of more products closer to home. Garcia says that variety will be evident in departments throughout the store, with everything from a stocked hardware section to expanded electronics. With Lincoln and Omaha 35 and 45 miles away, respectively, Garcia says customers are pleased they will be able to shop in Nebraska City, saving time and gas money. Johnston also welcomes new consumers to Nebraska City and notes, “To date, it has been a pleasure to work with Wal-Mart management and staff and I look forward to supporting their continued involvement in our community.” Driving Community Commitment, Store Helps Purchase New Wheelchair Van for Veterans According to Garcia, as part of the new store’s commitment to the community, the Nebraska City Wal-Mart Supercenter will announce $37,500 in donations to local charitable and civic organizations through Wal-Mart’s community involvement program. Like all Wal-Mart stores, the Nebraska City store will provide grant dollars throughout the year to help its neighborhood organizations. New Supercenter Brings Enhanced Wal-Mart Features, Variety The new 104,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter features wider aisles and concrete and wood-laminate flooring throughout the store. Shoppers will immediately notice the Supercenter’s enhanced landscaping as well as earthtone colors. New interior signage helps shoppers navigate through a larger store with more than 30 general merchandise departments and expansive grocery selections. The grocery department offers shoppers a bakery, meat, dairy, fresh produce, a frozen foods section and an expanded organic selection. As a Supercenter, the store also offers customers a large home organization department, an infant section, and an expanded electronics department offering the latest DVD players, iPods, and high-definition and plasma TVs. A family apparel department, health and beauty aids, household needs, toys, an expanded lawn and garden center, jewelry and shoes are also available at the new store. Other added conveniences of the new store include a Tire & Lube Express, a pharmacy, a one-hour photo lab, a Wal-Mart Connect Center and liquor sales. The Nebraska City Supercenter will include 10 full-service and four express check-out lanes. It will be open to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Grand Opening Celebration Details Following the national anthem and invocation, members of the American Legion will present the colors. Nebraska City Mayor JoDee Adelung, along with Johnston, will attend the 7:30 a.m. ceremony. Additional activities planned during grand opening day include numerous product samples, giveaways and character appearances.
