Farmingdale Residents Welcome Wal-Mart's Variety, Selection And Enhanced Store Features

Store opens March 14 boasting new design elements;
More than $22,000 given locally


FARMINGDALE, N.Y., March 10, 2007 – Wal-Mart opens a new store in Farmingdale Wednesday, March 14, to a community eagerly awaiting a conveniently located store with a wide variety of merchandise. Located at 901 Route 110, the new 142,647-square-foot store boasts many appealing elements including earth tone colors, concrete and wood flooring throughout the store, wider aisles and energy-efficient lighting.

The women’s apparel department includes Wal-Mart’s fashion-forward collection, Metro 7, as well as the popular apparel line, George for men, women and youth. Other merchandise departments include accessories, fine jewelry, a lawn and garden center, health and beauty aids, and an expansive home entertainment and electronics department with computers, DVD players, movies, games and high-definition and plasma televisions.

For added convenience, the store offers a Tire & Lube Express, a Subway restaurant, a vision center, a pharmacy, a one-hour photo lab and a Regal Nails salon. The store will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., seven days a week and will include 14 full-service, four express and four self check-out lanes. The store will hire more than 300 new positions, of which 1,500 applications already have been received.

The store will announce $22,000 in donations, including $5,000 each to East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Department, Farmingdale High School and Howitt Middle School and $7,000 to Farmingdale Community Summit Council. (Please see page two for a full listing of grant recipients.)

The Farmingdale store is one of two Wal-Mart stores opening in New York in March. A Wal-Mart Supercenter will be opening in Brockport this month.

Grand Opening Preview Night – 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, March 12
Preview tours will be provided at this special invitation-only open house for VIPs, Wal-Mart associates and their families. The Howitt Middle School choir will be singing the national anthem and donations totaling $22,000 will be presented to representatives of the community organizations this evening. Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.

Grand Opening Celebration – 7 a.m., Wednesday, March 14 (doors open immediately following)
The Farmingdale High School brass band will be performing the national anthem and community leaders are expected to attend the grand opening ceremony. Interviews and photo opportunities will be available for media representatives throughout the day.
