New Store provide $19,350 to charitable organizations

FAIRMONT, W.Va., March 5, 2007 – Shoppers have been eagerly awaiting the March 14 opening of the new Fairmont Supercenter, particularly the value and convenience of a full grocery store and expanded merchandise selection in one location. The new, 210,380-square-foot Supercenter will be in a familiar location and have many new designs and departments, as well as, one of the state’s most spacious garden centers.

The store will continue to support the community as it has since first opening as a discount store in 1991. The store is presenting $19,350 in donations to local organizations upon its opening. Tina Shaw, president of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, applauded the Fairmont Wal-Mart discount store for being an active and supportive business to the community through the years.

“The manager, Arlene Minear, has been involved in the Chamber and has participated in not only business related events, but has sponsored and supported initiatives regarding our youth leadership programs, quality of life initiatives and community based events,” Shaw said. “As one of the largest employers in our county, Wal-Mart is truly a business that gives back to the community.”

The store plans to hire approximately 180 new positions bringing its total employment to 380 associates. Minear, a West Virginia native, said shoppers have been driving to the neighboring Clarksburg Supercenter to take advantage of every day low price items there. Marion County residents will now have access to a 24-hour store offering not only the groceries they seek, but also the conveniences of a Subway restaurant, pharmacy, one-hour photo lab, vision center, beer and wine sales, Wood Forest Bank branch, SmartSyle hair salon, Regal nail salon and a Wal-Mart Connect Center.
