Walmart Statement on Media Reports Regarding Cadmium in Children's ProductsEditors note: This statement was originally issued on January 11, 2010. Additional statements were issued on Jan. 29 and on April 26, 2010. January 29, 2010 Two weeks ago, upon learning of a media report about cadmium, we took swift action to protect our customers. We instructed all stores to immediately pull the products identified from our shelves and blocked the sale at registers while we launched our own investigation. Today the CPSC issued a recall announcement about one of the items we already removed from sale on January 11, 2010. The items are currently being tested to see how we can responsibly manage and destroy them, and they will not be offered for sale anywhere. We continue to actively participate in the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s investigation, along with suppliers and industry associations, as they determine what the standards should be. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and associates, and we remain committed to playing a leadership role as an advocate for our customers.
