3 Wal-Marts testing purge of plastic bags

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is testing the limits of its customers' willingness to change by eliminating free plastic bags at three of its California stores.

The retailer offers as an option a new, 15-cent reusable bag that can be recycled in existing bins at its stores after an expected useful life of 75 shopping trips. The company's standard reusable bags sell for 50 cents.

"This test fits with Wal-Mart's zero-waste commitment," said Amy Neufeld, a media manager for the company in California. Read on.
